Our History

A space in which to grow without haste

Allegra Free School is a preschool located in Aravaca, very close to Pozuelo and just a few minutes from Madrid. Raquel Rodríguez, a preschool teacher and Waldorf educator, founded it with the intention of offering children a space where they can be freely nurtured according to their temperament, their family, their life impulses…

The Allegra Free School is the result of Raquel's observations during her more than fifteen years working with children in Waldorf classrooms. During this time, she discovered that the impulse to venture out into the world is developing earlier and earlier in young children, and she decided to create a place where there is no rush or pressure, where students can begin to hone the inner drive that will later need to be activated—that internal drive, unique to each individual, which is what makes the difference and fosters one kind of life or another.

This is the driving force we want to nurture, cultivate, and above all, respect in our school, always working alongside families, considering their emotional needs and their priorities as the primary educators of their children. Our educational model is based on alternative pedagogies to traditional schools, such as Waldorf and Emmi Pikker.

At Allegra we work on numerous aspects: balance (physical, which is related to the emotional), warmth, rhythms, nutrition, sensory integration, psychomotor skills and fluid movement, external relationships with others, autonomy, ability to recreate lived scenes, dream, create, imagine…

Our philosophy is not just basic childcare, but a deeper level of care and support.
